Rick Barker

Rick Barker discovered the incomparable magic of moving through the mountains on skis during winter expeditions in the western states, the Canadian Rockies, the French Alps, Tibet’s Himalayas (to over 22,000 feet), and north of the Arctic Circle in Greenland.

He began his snow career with a bang at Snowbird Ski Resort, where he threw bombs for avalanche mitigation during the record season of 1982-83. The following season, and for nearly 20 more, he was tasked with implementing and directing a Snow Study program while also guiding for Sun Valley Heli-Ski.

Simultaneously, Rick became an Avalanche Forecaster for the Sawtooth Avalanche Center for a decade. He has run many season-long Avalanche Awareness programs, combining classroom education with extensive field truthing.

Rick is an IOGB Level 2 Ski Guide, a AAA Pro Member, and a First Aid and Rescue Educator for Galena Backcountry Ski Patrol. He continues to be entranced by sliding through the mountains in a different location each snowy day.
