Boulder Yurt DinnerS

Information

Meet at Billy's Bridge

Time: 4:00 - 4:30pm

Description

Enjoy the most unique evening activity in the valley! Your group will ski or snowshoe to the yurt, with up to 10 friends and family, as the sun sets, and the alpenglow lights the Boulder Mountains. After an easy 1.5 miles, you will arrive at the cozy, beautifully decorated Boulder Yurt where your backcountry chefs await with a delicious feast. Share an extraordinary meal with friends before you ski/snowshoe back under the stars for an evening you will never forget.

When choosing your recreational mode of transportation to trek in, whether it's cross-country skis, snowshoes or backcountry skis with skins, we recommend choosing whatever you are most comfortable with and will have the most fun on! The group as a whole does not need to come to one consensus as to how you will get in. You can have a mix of cross-country skiers with snowshoers - just make sure to have fun with however you decide to head up to the yurt! But please also take into consideration your trip out after your dinner as you will be leaving in the dark (with your headlamp), possibly after a few drinks and the path may have frozen over a bit while you have been dining in your warm yurt and you will have a slightly "steep" top to start out on - but after that it is fairly flat again to get back to your car.

Additional Information: The Boulder Yurt is actually two yurts connected together, with a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, bunks, wood stoves and a wonderful sauna. Your chefs will be cooking and preparing your meal in one yurt, while you dine, drink and be merry in the other. A self-serve bar will be set up for you waiting for your arrival.

The Boulder Dinner Tour is BYOB. Please plan ahead of time what you would like to drink up at the yurt besides water. You can bring your beverages with you to Billy’s Bridge where your host, meeting you there, will porter everything up for you. Make sure to coordinate with your group in advanced so you do not show up with 5 containers of tequila. Let us know if you will be having champagne, so we can be sure to have the proper drinkware.

    • If you have been on a Backcountry Day Tour with us or to one of our other huts, for the Boulder Dinner Tour you do not need to bring any Avalanche Rescue Equipment as you do not pass through any avalanche terrain on your way to Boulder Yurt.

    • BOAS! Please let us know if you are celebrating something special. However, if you are celebrating something special and plan to dress festive, please NO BOAS! They shed feathers everywhere they go, are bad for the environment and our staff ends up picking up feathers frozen along the path as well as all over the yurt. YOU WILL BE CHARGED EXTRA FOR BRINGING ANY BOAS AS THIS ADDS ON HOURS OF EXTRA CLEAN-UP (yes, hours and sometimes days!)

  • Meet your host between 4 - 4:30pm at Billy's Bridge. The time of year depends on how early/late you will meet your guide. Those in December should try and meet no later than 4pm. Those going in March have some more daylight to work with and can meet closer to 4:30pm.

It is an easy 15-minute drive north of Ketchum. From there you will head to the Boulder Yurt, which is nestled at the base of Butterfield Mountain in the Smoky Mountains, directly across from the spectacular Boulder Mountain Front.

The trip into the hut can take as little time as 45 minutes or as long as 1.5 hours, depending on the snow conditions and the fitness of the group members. The trip out is slightly downhill and can take as little as 20 minutes. It is an easy approach, with a slightly steeper part towards the end just before you get to the yurt. For those familiar with Sun Valley Resort, we would compare this part to Lower River Run to give you an idea of its pitch, but it is not too long of an uphill approach.
