Cancellation Policy

Sun Valley Guides is a small business and cancellations affect us greatly. Please read our cancellation policy carefully prior to finalizing your booking. We suggest you consider carrying a policy with a travel insurance company to further insure your trip in the event of a cancellation.

DAY TRIP CANCELLATION

We require payment in full to secure a day trip reservation. Cancellations made less than 48 hours prior to scheduled trip are 100% non-refundable.  If a guest cancels outside of 48 hours, 50% of total trip cost will be refunded to the guest.

OVERNIGHT/HUT TRIP/BOULDER DINNER CANCELLATION

A 50% non-refundable deposit is made to secure a guided hut trip. Cancellations made with more than 30 days’ notice will receive a refund for the cost of the trip, less the deposit fee. Cancellations made between 15 to 30 days prior to scheduled departure will receive a refund for half of the final balance.

Cancellations made less than 2 weeks prior to your scheduled trip are 100% non-refundable.

We understand things come up and we want to work with you to ensure you get time in our beautiful Idaho backcountry. While your deposit is non-refundable, it is partially transferable (less the hut fees). If you cancel with more than 30 days’ notice, we will work with you to find another available date to make your trip happen.

AVALANCHE COURSE CANCELLATION

A 50% non-refundable deposit is made to secure a spot on an avalanche course. Cancellations made with more than 2 weeks notice will receive a refund for the cost of the course, less the deposit fee. Cancellations made within 2 weeks of class start date are 100% non-refundable, but if a replacement for your spot can be found, we will transfer your deposit as credit for another course later in the same winter season with a $50 booking fee.

CANCELLATION – NO SNOW

Our winter season is dependent on snow, not powder. If we can tour, but can’t make powder turns, we still consider that we have snow. If there truly is no snow, we will give you a full refund, less a 15% service fee on the deposit.

CANCELLATIONS – WEATHER/AVALANCHE HAZARD

We unfortunately cannot guarantee the weather or the conditions; therefore there is no refund because of foul weather, poor snow conditions, or avalanche hazard. There are avalanche hazard-free routes into the huts and safe ski terrain around all the huts. We will always prioritize your safety in the backcountry and make sure that any guided trip maximizes both smart use of the conditions and your enjoyment.

CANCELLATIONS – COVID-19

In the case that your trip has been canceled due to an SVG staff member having tested positive, we will offer either a full refund or 100% credit for a future date. If your cancelation is due to you or someone in your group, our standard cancelation policy applies.

We encourage you to sign up for travel insurance as an added protection. There are many options out there, but we recommend companies such as Travel Guard or TravelEx. Travel insurance can cover your expenses in the event you need to cancel your trip or your trip is affected by acts of nature.
