Recreational Level 2

AVALANCHE TRAINING

This is a course picks up from where the Level 1 left off and gives backcountry tourers more information on how to use the forecast and tools to build their own tours. There is mentorship from qualified guides to give feedback on route selection and managing terrain to reduce exposure to avalanche terrain.

Prerequisites:

Rec. Level 1 and Avalanche Rescue Courses. Intermediate skier/rider with touring experience.

●      Statistics

●      Terrain features, shape, and size

●      Snowpack development and change

●      Weather’s impact on the snowpack

●      Safe travel protocols

●      Human factors

●      Tour planning

●      Decision making tools

●      Interpreting the avalanche advisory

●      Mapping route selection

What is provided:

●      AMGA certified and/or trained guide

●      Guides will be carrying a first aid kit, navigation equipment, skin wax/scraper, inReach satellite device, repair kit, bivy/rescue sled and survival supplies
