Description
Over the course of four days, kids who are new to outdoor rock climbing will learn from certified climbing guides. Starting with an introduction to equipment and basic climbing techniques, they'll gradually advance to more challenging climbs, refining their skills and building confidence along the way. Emphasis will be placed on safety procedures, communication, and teamwork.
Throughout the program, participants will engage in skill-building exercises, tackle climbing challenges and learn advanced techniques such as route reading and movement efficiency. The experience will culminate in a final day of climbing, where participants can apply their newfound skills to more difficult routes and reflect on their achievements. The overarching goals are to inspire a passion for outdoor adventure, foster skill development and promote a culture of safety and camaraderie among participants.
Students will learn the following skills:
Introduction to outdoor rock climbing equipment and safety procedures
Basic climbing techniques such as footwork, handholds, and body positioning
Learn communication and belaying techniques
Practice different climbing styles and techniques, including slab, face, and crack climbing
Learn how to rappel routes
Construct top rope anchors and clean anchors
Provide opportunities for peer support and encouragement
Emphasize safe climbing practices and communication between belayers and climbers

10 - 13 years old OR 14 - 16 years old
Can hike 2.5 miles with an elevation gain of up to 1,100’ wearing a small backpack

***Guide gratuity not included. As part of the service industry, it is customary to tip your guide(s) if you are happy with their service and should reflect a level of excellence in the service. If you choose to tip, 10-20% of the total trip fee is standard, and cash/Venmo is the preferred method.

A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to secure your reservation, with the remaining balance due before the start of the program. Cancellations made more than two weeks in advance will receive a refund for half of the total program fee. Cancellations made less than two weeks prior to your scheduled trip are 100% non-refundable.
We understand that plans can change, and we want to work with you to ensure your jr. mountaineer experiences Idaho’s beautiful backcountry. While your deposit is non-refundable, it may be partially transferable, depending on the circumstances.

Yes. Sun Valley Guides is committed to providing safe and enjoyable adventures in the backcountry. All legal guardians of minors participating in Jr. Mountaineers programs must read and sign a Release of Liability and Waiver of Claims Agreement on behalf of the participant.
Be sure to read and sign the waiver prior to the start of your program. You can find your waiver in your reservation confirmation.

In order to secure your Jr. Mountaineer's spot in the camp, we require a deposit totaling 50% of the registration fee at time of enrollment. The remainder of the payment is due on or prior to June 1.

Sun Valley Guides issues refunds for Jr. Mountaineers programs based on the following schedule:
Before April 1st – 80% refund for cancellations
After April 1st – 50% refund for sessions canceled at least 4 weeks before the start date
Within 4 weeks of the session start date – No refunds issued
