Crux captains

Over the course of five days, teenagers new to outdoor rock climbing will undergo a progressive learning journey. Starting with an introduction to equipment and basic climbing techniques, they'll gradually advance to more challenging climbs, refining their skills and building confidence along the way. Emphasis will be placed on safety procedures, communication, and teamwork.

Throughout the program, participants will engage in skill-building exercises, tackle climbing challenges, and learn advanced techniques such as route reading and movement efficiency. The experience will culminate in a final day of climbing, where participants can apply their newfound skills to more difficult routes and reflect on their achievements. The overarching goals are to inspire a passion for outdoor adventure, foster skill development, and promote a culture of safety and camaraderie among participants.

Students will learn the following skills:

  • Introduction to outdoor rock climbing equipment and safety procedures

  • Basic climbing techniques such as footwork, handholds, and body positioning

  • Learn communication and belaying techniques

  • Practice different climbing styles and techniques, including slab, face, and crack climbing

  • Learn how to rappel routes
